Time & Location
About the Event
Explore the potential for hemp and cannabis to help with ecological regeneration, habitat, and farmland conservation- with hands on site analysis and permaculture design for a lakeside retreat. Hemp farming is now federally legal and a fast growing sector of the agricultural economy. If you are a budding hemp farmer, or even a seasoned expert, come learn from one of Vermont's leading experts in permaculture and cannabis, Keith Morris.
As founder of Willow Crossing Farm- Keith produces fruits, nuts, eggs, herbs, nursery plants, solar power, farm dinners/ retreats, educational events, and small music festivals. As a veteran cannabis grower, he produces artisanal CBD flower, and Cannabis Starts, clones, and seedlings for closets and commercial field growers.
With Prospect Rock Permaculture he helps growers and communities design appropriate infrastructure to make food systems more regenerative, resilient, and connected; and started the Permaculture Education programs at the University of Vermont, Sterling College, the Yestermorrow Design Build School, St. Mikes College, and Paul Smiths College, and with the USAID Farmer to Farmer Program.
The Maya Retreat Center is located on the western shores of Lake Champlain in Isle La Motte. Maya Retreat Center is the central location for the Maya Center for Integrative Medicine. Our mission is to provide holistic integrative programs and retreats that support the health and wellness of all individuals, with specific focus and expertise in understanding and supporting treatment of complex chronic disease. A vital component in our model of wellness is to work in harmony with, and be good stewards of our land. To that end, we began to slowly implement permaculture design into our land with the planting of fruit and nut trees, and introducing animals into the system to contribute to a healthy ecosystem. Our ultimate goal with the land is to establish a food forest that will sustain itself while providing healthy organic food for our community. This year, we are introducing hemp into the system with the intent of companion planting with other herbs and plants, to further nourish the soil and build the ecosystem, and grow our food forest. We recognize the many health benefits that hemp provides as a protein source, and an oil rich in constituents which are vital for improving chronic disease and promoting overall health, and wellness.
